Finding the right balance between speed and steering angle took some trial and error, I found it better to be on the sensitive side and work more in controlling the amount of input I is a realistic and immersive driving game, offering near-limitless possibilities and capable of doing just about anything!īeamNG in-house soft-body physics engine simulates every component of a vehicle 2000 times per second in real time, resulting in realistic and high-fidelity dynamic behavior. The only problem is that sometimes you need to put in more angle than the limiter allows to really push a car to its absolute limit or regain control of an out of control car. The angle limiter allows you to maintain a predictable linear relationship between input and angle at lower speeds, but effectively reduces steering sensitivity the faster you're driving. Back off on the angle a tiny bit and now you dont have enough steering to make the turn. Accidently giving the joystick a tiny bit extra input can result in 15-20% extra steering angle, causing understeer, and now you are in the ditch with a totaled car. You get excellent control for the 30% steering you usually need in faster corners, but with slower corners it's easy to over-turn the wheels and start a push, when you get too much angle and cause sudden understeer. Here the last 1/4 of joystick travel accounts for like 70% of the steering angle. The linearity setting I found to be difficult to predict at slower speeds, as you lose the fine steering adjustments during slow sharp corners. I've found this setting to be more helpful than the steering linearity. This puts a limit on the steering angle based on how fast you are moving, so high speeds have less sensitive steering. There is another setting you can adjust "limit steering at high speeds" that is better for this. ![]() ![]() BeamNG.drive is a realistic and immersive driving game, offering near-limitless possibilities and capable of doing just about anything!īeamNG in-house soft-body physics engine simulates every component of a vehicle 2000 times per second in real time, resulting in realistic and high-fidelity dynamic behavior.
